FERC is an independent federal agency tasked with regulating the nation’s electricity markets and reviewing aspects of pipelines and natural gas export facilities. Our work focuses on ensuring that households have access to affordable and clean energy – and holding corporations accountable in the setting of electricity prices for American families.

Internship – Winter 2024 – Now Accepting Applications

We seek an intern to provide research and writing support for our FERC work. The intern would be an integral part of the project team. This is an opportunity to help produce meaningful FERC filings with a public interest team committed to transparency and just and reasonable rates.

Responsibilities include:

• Research and writing support for our interventions and filings at FERC on rate proposals, FERC rulemakings, cybersecurity dockets, mergers and other FERC-related work. Interns that demonstrate outstanding skills will be listed as co-authors on FERC filings.

Supervision: Intern will be supervised by the Director. Given the nature of our work, it is important that interns have the ability and the desire to work independently.

Qualifications: Strong research and writing skills; familiarity with basic FERC concepts and proceedings a plus. Legal experience/training not necessarily required.

Duration: Unpaid internships can be three to four months, full- or part-time, to be negotiated on a case-by-case basis. Paid internships are 20 hours/week for 16 weeks.

Location: With COVID, the intern will work remotely.

Public Citizen internships are available year round. Our internships are up to 40 hours a week for around eight weeks.  **We accept unpaid internship applications on a rolling basis and currently are accepting applications for paid internships for Summer 2024.**

Public Citizen offers unpaid internships (credit can be arranged) and a small number of paid internships ($17 an hour).  To be considered for a paid internship for Fall 2023, candidates must apply by March 25,  2024, and submit materials listed below.  Chosen applicants will be notified on April 15, 2024.

If you are applying for a paid internship, please include an essay outlining why you want to intern at Public Citizen and any other information about you that you wish to have considered, including your need for financial support (500 words or less). If you have completed the FAFSA, please also submit a copy of your Student Aid Report (SAR).
