Tuesday: 2.2 Million Signatures Demanding Medicare for All Hit Capitol Hill

Petition Delivery Will Demonstrate Growing Momentum for Guaranteed Health Care for All

WHAT: On Tuesday more than a dozen groups will deliver more than 2.2 million petition signatures in support of Medicare for All to the U.S. House of Representatives.

The groups include Public Citizen, Be a Hero, Business for Medicare for All, Credo Action, Daily Kos, Democracy for America, International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, Justice Democrats, League of United Latin American Citizens, Move On, Our Revolution, People’s Action, Physicians for a National Health Plan, Progressive Change Campaign Committee and Social Security Works.

Starting at U.S. Rep. Pramila Jayapal’s (D-Wash.) office, representatives from these organizations will walk with boxes symbolizing the number of signatures and will deliver binders and electronic versions of the signatures to the offices of several members of the House to urge them to co-sponsor and hold more hearings on the legislation. Jayapal will also be speaking before the deliveries.

Medicare for All would provide comprehensive health care coverage for all Americans, while reducing health care spending, both for most Americans and for the country. Such a system would save middle-class families up to 14% compared to their current health care spending and would reduce health care administrative spending by $500 billion per year and pharmaceutical costs by $115 billion per year.
