Mueller Book Club Launches
U.S. Rep. Jerry Nadler, House Judiciary Committee Chair, Will Participate in Virtual Book Club Discussion on Monday, May 20
WASHINGTON, D.C. – To encourage more people to read Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report, the Trump Is Not Above the Law coalition has launched the Mueller Book Club.
Every Monday night for the next four weeks, the book club will meet virtually to participate in a chat led by legal experts and other noteworthy people. On Monday, May 20, U.S. House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.) will join the group to discuss Mueller’s findings and join other speakers who will help guide participants through reading and understanding the report.
A preliminary Mueller Book Club meeting, held on Monday, attracted people from throughout the country. It was streamed live on Facebook; the video is available at https://youtu.be/nOiTgiei_U4. Subsequent club meetings will be livestreamed at https://www.facebook.com/muellerbookclub/.
Just 3% of the country say they have read Mueller’s report on his investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election, according to a CNN poll. The goal of the book club is to encourage people to understand what Mueller found and what it means for our democracy.
Hearing the need for Americans to understand and hear the details of the report, House Democrats began reading the report in full from the floor of the House today.
“The importance of the facts in the Mueller report cannot be overstated,” said Lisa Gilbert, vice president of legislative affairs for Public Citizen. “We have convened the Mueller Book Club as a step toward the goal of every American understanding the deep interference of the Russian government in our elections and the ongoing obstruction of Donald Trump of the investigation into that practice. The information in the report is appalling and must be better understood.”
Added Jonah Minkoff-Zern, co-director of Public Citizen’s Democracy Is For People campaign, who is helping to organize the book club, “Even as someone who has been closely following the investigation, the contents of the Mueller report are truly astounding. It is imperative that Americans understand what happened so they can make their own judgment as to whether Trump is fit to govern our nation.”
