Mueller Book Club Is Taking Off, Garnering More Than 20,000 Views

U.S. Rep. Jerry Nadler and Gloria Steinem Are Upcoming Speakers in Virtual Club Meetings

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Mueller Book Club is growing quickly, having attracted more than 20,000 views over the past two weeks.

The virtual event was established to encourage more people to read Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report on his investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 elections. Just 3% of the country say they have read Mueller’s report on his investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election, according to a CNN poll.

More than 3,400 people have already signed up to participate in tonight’s virtual meeting, which features U.S. Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.), chair of the U.S. House of Representatives’ Judiciary Committee. Nadler will discuss Mueller’s findings and help guide participants through reading and understanding the report. (Nadler was scheduled to participate on May 20 but had to postpone.)

Other speakers participating tonight are Josh Geltzer, executive director of the Institute for Constitutional Advocacy and Protection at Georgetown University Law Center; Mary McCord, a senior litigator for the same institute; and Renato Mariotti, a former federal prosecutor, CNN legal analyst and Politico columnist.

Next Monday night, Gloria Steinem is scheduled to participate in next Monday night’s meeting.

The book club, organized by the Trump Is Not Above the Law coalition, launched on May 13 and is livestreamed on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/muellerbookclub/. The first meeting has been viewed 3,500 times; the May 20 meeting, about 18,000 times.

Meetings are at 8:30 p.m. EDT. They are usually held on Monday nights, but this week’s is being held tonight because of the Memorial Day holiday.

“It’s gratifying that so many people are eager to learn more about what the report says and what it means,” said Jonah Minkoff-Zern, co-director of Public Citizen’s Democracy Is For People campaign, who helped organize the book club. “It is crucial that Americans understand what happened so they can make their own judgment as to whether Trump is fit to govern our nation. It’s also critical that they understand the need to secure our elections so a foreign entity is not able to interfere in 2020 as it did in 2016.”
