More Than 400,000 People Have Signed Up to Protest at TrumpIsNotAboveTheLaw.org

More Than 900 Events in All 50 States, D.C., Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, Facilitated by Collaboration of Groups Across the Political Spectrum

WASHINGTON, D.C.–More than 400,000 people have committed to hitting the streets in mass “Nobody Is  Above the Law” protests across the country in the event President Donald Trump crosses certain red lines to obstruct the Mueller-Rosenstein investigation.

The benchmark was reached on the same day that Paul Manafort, Trump’s former campaign chairman, is expected to plead guilty to federal crimes in Washington. Manafort’s potential plea deal has fueled further speculation about a pardon from Trump intended to obstruct the cooperation of witnesses, which could trigger the protests.

The news comes as the Mueller-Rosenstein investigation continues heating up. The probe has already yielded 35 indictments, five guilty pleas and eight felony convictions. Longtime Trump adviser Roger Stone recently said he expects to be indicted. Trump also expressed on Sept. 7 that he’d be willing to sit down for an interview with Special Counsel Robert Mueller “under certain circumstances” although his attorney Rudy Giuliani has said their legal team would fight a subpoena from Mueller all the way to the Supreme Court.

The “break the glass” moment would be triggered by the following scenarios:

1. The firing of Mueller;
2. The pardoning of key witnesses; and
3. Actions that would prevent the investigation from being conducted freely, such as replacing Mueller’s current supervisor, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, or repealing the regulations establishing the office.

Concerned Americans can use the map tool or search by ZIP code to find an event near them, or create one if none exists. More than 900 protests are planned in all 50 states, D.C., Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. Protests are planned in major U.S. cities as well as small towns across the country, including Grand Marais, Minn., population 1,339, where 18 people have signed up to protest.

TrumpIsNotAboveTheLaw.org is not organized by any individual group; instead it’s a collaborative effort of dozens of organizations from across the political and ideological spectrum, including the Truman National Security Project, MoveOn Civic Action, Public Citizen, Stand Up America, March for Truth, Common Cause, Indivisible, People For the American Way, Democracy 21, Center for American Progress Action Fund, The Arena, Together We Will, Common Defense, Free Speech for People, Demos, Town Hall Project, NextGen America, Women’s March, March On, Friends of the Earth, Bend The Arc Jewish Action, Lawyers for Good Government, Americans for Democratic Action, American Family Voices and The Center for Popular Democracy.
