Cities Representing 3 Million Pennsylvanians Demand Medicare for All

Statement of Melinda St. Louis, Director, Public Citizen’s Medicare for All Campaign

Note: The Easton, Pa., City Council on Wednesday unanimously passed a resolution in support of Medicare for All. The city is the sixth Pennsylvania locality to pass such a resolution and follows Bethlehem, Norristown, Pittsburgh, Allegheny County and Philadelphia – which combined are home to almost 3 million Pennsylvanians. Public Citizen is part of a coalition urging citizens to press their local governments to pass similar resolutions.

Pennsylvania is quickly becoming the new epicenter for Medicare for All resolutions. From small towns like Bethlehem and Norristown to major metropolitan cities like Pittsburgh and Philadelphia, Pennsylvanians are demanding guaranteed health care for all.

This latest resolution in Easton was passed through grassroots efforts and engaging with the public. That’s exactly how we’ll build the movement to win Medicare for All in Congress.

We call on the members of the Pennsylvania congressional delegation who have not co-sponsored Medicare for All legislation in the U.S. House of Representatives – especially U.S. Reps. Dwight Evans, Madeleine Dean, Mary Gay Scanlon, Chrissy Houlahan and Conor Lamb – to heed the call from their constituents and municipal governments and join their Democratic colleagues who have done the right thing by supporting health care as a human right.
