Adam Pulver quoted in Politico article on swine speed rule

In response to public comments on the proposed rule about the risks to workers, USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service wrote last week that “while FSIS agrees that safe working conditions in swine slaughter establishments are important, the agency has neither the authority nor the expertise to regulate issues related to establishment worker safety.” Adam Pulver, an attorney with Public Citizen, said that “violates basic principles of administrative law.” In a written statement, Pulver said: “Shockingly, USDA admitted in its rule that it simply ignored the mounds of evidence that showed its actions will harm workers, while bending over backwards to help businesses.”
