Texas Attorney General Files Lawsuit Against TPC Group

Note: On Feb. 21, the Texas Attorney General’s Office sued TPC Group, Inc. and TPC Group, LLC pertaining to the Nov. 27, 2019 explosion at its Port Neches plant. The lawsuit, filed on behalf of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, also includes claims that TPC Group caused numerous violations of TCEQ’s air quality program from January 2018 through September 2019.
While we’re encouraged by today’s announcement, filing suit is only the first step. The attorney general must see this through with a penalty that is sufficient to deter polluters who threaten our health and safety. A stiff penalty would show that Texas will no longer tolerate threats to public health and safety from the petrochemical industry.
