An Investigation Isn’t Enough, Blankenstein Must Be Fired Over Racist Writings

Statement of Remington A. Gregg, Counsel for Civil Justice and Consumer Rights, Public Citizen’ Congress Watch Division

Note: Note: Today, U.S. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) Acting Director Mick Mulvaney asked for an inspector general investigation into the racist writings of Eric Blankenstein, who oversees the CFPB office that combats discrimination in lending.

Last week, Mulvaney appeared to defend his acolyte, Blankenstein, but has apparently now figured out that the author of racist writings may have serious credibility issues that would affect his job combating discrimination. Calling for an inspector general investigation is just a way to delay the inevitable. Mulvaney should fire Blankenstein now.
