Scott Nelson

Scott L. Nelson is of counsel to Public Citizen Litigation Group, where he practiced full-time from August 2001 to August 2023. Until its dissolution at the end of 2000, Scott was a partner in the Washington, DC, law firm Miller, Cassidy, Larroca & Lewin, LLP, where he practiced law from 1986 to 2021.

At Public Citizen, Scott’s practice covered a range of subjects, including access to presidential records and Freedom of Information Act cases, regulation of hazardous substances in the workplace, class actions, and practice before the Supreme Court of the United States. He has argued five cases in the U.S. Supreme Court.

Scott received his undergraduate education at Harvard University, graduating magna cum laude in 1981 and earning election to Phi Beta Kappa. He went on to attend Harvard Law School, and was elected President of the Harvard Law Review in 1983. He received his law degree magna cum laude in 1984. Immediately upon graduating from law school, Scott served as a law clerk to the Honorable Byron R. White, Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States, from 1984 to 1986.
