Rick Claypool is the online director in Public Citizen’s Congress Watch division. Through a mix of new media tactics including blogging, email advocacy and social media networking, he engages grassroots activists and urges them to advocate for progressive change on issues related to government reform, access to justice and financial reform. He received his master’s degree in popular culture studies from Bowling Green State University, where he wrote his thesis on ideology, technology and everyday life. He graduated magna cum laude from Saint Vincent College, where he studied English. Before coming to Public Citizen, he assisted outreach and organizing efforts at a grassroots anti-hunger organization in Pittsburgh, wrote advocacy and investigative stories for an alternative newsweekly in Toledo, and taught courses in cultural theory and analysis to undergraduates in northwest Ohio.
