If you have lost a manufacturing job…If you have lost a manufacturing job as a result of an increase in foreign imports or the relocation of the plant or production facility to a country with whom the U.S. has a free trade agreement, you may be eligible for benefits including training assistance, income support and job search and relocation allowances under the newly-consolidated Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) program. (There is no longer a separate program for workers who lose their jobs because of NAFTA.) More information about the program and its benefits is available from the Department of Labor (DoL) or by contacting the local office of your U.S. Senator or Representative. DoL also has information regarding the status of recently-filed certification petitions. For information on how your elected representatives voted on recent trade agreements, please see Public Citizen's Congressional Voting Guide.
Because Public Citizen does not accept funds from corporations, professional associations or government agencies, we can remain independent and follow the truth wherever it may lead. But that means we depend on the generosity of concerned citizens like you for the resources to fight on behalf of the public interest. If you would like to help us in our fight, click here. |
