The Cost of Nuclear Energy

April 29, 2009

A recent report entitled Costs of Current and Planned Nuclear Power Plants in Texas: A Consumer Perspective  (prepared for Public Citizen's Texas office by Clarence Johnson), addresses the cost impact of the currently operating nuclear plants on consumers in Texas, the history of nuclear power costs and construction delays and what that tells us about the likely costs of new nuclear plants, and the possible impacts on rates for Texas consumers in a deregulated market.

Mr. Johnson is recently retired from  the Texas Office of Public Utility Counsel-an independent agency, separate from the state's Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUC), created to represent the interests of residential and small commercial customers in state utility matters before the PUC, courts, and other utility regulatory agencies.
