The Bush Administration has a deplorable track record on environmental issues, in part because it has allowed regulated business and industry to play an unprecedented role in advancing suggestions for undermining and weakening environmental protections. In 2001, as part of its annual Report on the Costs and Benefits of Federal Regulations, the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) accepted nominations from the public for regulations that should be rescinded or changed. The majority of nominations originated from regulated industry, and of those, nearly one half targeted environmental protections. |
