Attorneys' Fees>> Victory in the Senate Finance Committee! <<On May 8, 2003 the Senate Finance committee rejected a proposal to limit attorneys' fees in tobacco and other mass tort cases. The measure, which was sponsored by Sen. John Kyl (R-Ariz.) and John Cornyn (R-Texas), was defeated 12-8-1. Republicans who switched sides to join with Democrats in opposing the measure were Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) and Gordon Smith (R-Ore.). Sen. Trent Lott (R-Miss.) voted present.
