What Can You Do to Keep Irradiated Meat Out of Schools?

cow

Although that the USDA has chosen to purchase irradiated meat for the school lunch program, district school officials can still choose between irradiated and non-irradiated meat for their students. It is essential that we work at the local level to prevent this in our own school districts! Across the country we are helping parents work with their school boards to ban irradiated food from their districts.

  • Work with your local school board to pass a formal resolution banning the use of irradiated foods in your school district! Contact Audrey to get started or download an organizing kit.

  • Call your school food service director and let them know that you don't want them to purchase irradiated meat for lunches.  Send them this letter. Ask them to sign this pledge.

  • The choice is up to state officials as well as local officials.  Call your state food service director and tell them that you don't want irradiated meat served to your children!  Or send them this letter.

  • Write a letter to your local paper about school nutrition and irradiated food. Here are some talking points you can include.
