Citizens Protest at the Wilson Building

lead

After being continuously misled by the Water and Sewer Authority in Washington, D.C., the Lead Emergency Action for DC (LEAD) organized a protest in front of City Hall on March 18, 2004. The chants included: “Hey hey, ho ho – Leaded water has got to go”; “What do we want: clean water, when do we want it: now” and “hey hey EPA, why don’t you do your job today”. Nearly 100 people joined the quickly organized protest to let city leaders know that there is a health emergency in Washington, D.C., and that residents are watching closely and monitoring the suggested solutions. But six weeks after a former employee at the water utility blew the whistle on the raised levels of lead in the district water, little has happened and residents therefore called for immediate action.
