Cadiz Inc. in CaliforniaVICTORY! A plan to store surplus water in the Mojave Desert and also mine indigenous groundwater was permanently stopped by the Metropolitan Water District (MWD) of Southern California at its board meeting on Tuesday, October 8, 2002. The successful campaign to stop the Cadiz project was won by a joint effort between the environmental community, which was concerned about the impact on the sensitive desert ecology and public interest groups, who were fighting to keep water clean and affordable for consumers.
