Climate Bill Must Work For Consumers
Last week Public Citizen, along with AARP, Consumer Federation of America, National Consumer Law Center, and dozens of other environmental and consumer groups, held a press conference about the lack of adequate consumer protections in the sweeping climate change legislation passed by the House of Representatives. We are calling on the Senate to improve this legislation by stripping out the corporate giveaways and including strong protections for struggling energy consumers and the environment.

Tell the NRC to Address Nuclear Waste
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is required by law to prepare an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) describing the real and potential impacts that could be caused by the construction of a new nuclear reactor. The EIS scoping process is an opportunity to demand that the Nuclear Regulatory Commission fully consider in its EIS any and all possible environmental impacts of a proposed new reactor. Send the below comments to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to let them know that they must face the unresolved issues of the nuclear power when considering its expansion.

Public Service Commission’s (PSC) has announced it will regulate the Constellation/EdF deal. Tell Congress: Corporate Influence Undermines Climate Change Bill
Climate change legislation currently being debated in Congress will prove a boon to the coal and oil industries, will fail to protect consumers and may very well not even curb global warming. Lawmakers have conducted closed door negotiations with polluters. The result: The bill was radically altered to accomodate the financial interests of big energy corporations while giving nothing new for the environment or for working families.

Sign letter to Obama on U.S. Radioactive Waste Policy
President Obama has taken a clear position on Yucca Mountain. By curtailing activity at the proposed repository for our nation's radioactive waste, the Obama administration has opened up the door for a new look at U.S. nuclear waste policy. The letter below not only states our position on nuclear waste management, but also urges President Obama to involve affected communities in the evaluation process.

Don't Let Energy Costs Put the Stranglehold on You!
Congress is considering setting aside more than $10 billion ($6 billion in grants, $4 billion in tax credits) for homeowners to weatherize their homes as part of the Obama administration's economic stimulus package. The "green energy stimulus" also would include measures to promote renewable energy and a public works project to make public buildings more energy-efficient. Act today and urge lawmakers to include energy-efficiency initiatives for you and other homeowners in the stimulus package.

Stop Nuclear Waste Reprocessing
Reprocessing is expensive and polluting, and poses a serious risk to U.S. national security. Tell the Energy Department that you oppose reprocessing radioactive waste and that it should abandon its dangerous and polluting Global Nuclear Energy Partnership (GNEP) program.
